New project for Rolton Fire
Rolton Fire have been appointed to compile a Fire Safety Manual by Great Bear Distribution for their new warehousing facility at Desborough.
Rolton Fire have already successfully contributed to developing the fire strategy of the building by conducting a ‘means of escape analysis’ from the warehouse areas.
Rolton Fire will compile a fire safety manual to support the handover documentation from the design and construction team on completion of the project, as required by the Building Regulations 2000.
Note:
The requirement for fire safety manuals to support new construction projects is clearly described in Appendix G of the new edition of Approved Document B- coming into effect from April 2007. For large and more complex buildings, the new ADB promotes the use of the format described in BS5588-12:2004 Fire precautions in the design, construction and use of buildings: Managing fire safety Annex A.
The scope of a fire safety manual includes:
a) provide a full description of the assumptions and philosophies that led to the fire safety design, including explicit assumptions regarding the management of the building, housekeeping and other management functions
b) explain the nature of the fire safety planning, construction and systems designed into the building, and their relationship to overall safety and evacuation management
c) draw on the documentation produced at the design stage to describe the use of the various fire protection systems, and the responsibilities of the staff
d) provide a framework for a continuously updated record of all aspects of the building and the building users that affect its fire safety, including maintenance of fire systems, management requirements, etc.
